Cox’s Bazar: Today early morning (4 October 2022) police and Coast Guard rescued 45 people including Rohingya while a trawler on the way to Malaysia was drowning at sea adjacent to Shamlapur Nau Hat in Teknaf.
It also has been learnt that at around 12 pm, police recovered three female dead bodies from beach of Shilkhali of Baharsara in Teknaf, whose identification yet to be known.
Tareque, a local youth of Shamlapur said, “I went out for a walk in the sea at dawn. I saw some people there shouting uttering ‘Save, Save’. After being confirmed about the trawler drowning, I informed to near by Coast guard police who took a boat and rescued 45 people alive.”
A Rohingya teenager survivor who was on the trawler said, “There were at least 200 people on the trawler we boarded. We were separated as soon as the trawler sank. I don’t know who went in which direction after being hit by the wave.
Hafizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station confirmed the matter by saying that when the Rohingyas tried to go to Malaysia by sea, the trawler carrying them sank. On the information, 3 female death bodies and 45 people were rescued alive with the help of the Coast Guard while some others are missing. Rescue operation is still going on.
