Two separate fire incidents occurred on Tuesday in the same shelter at Camp 2W, Block C, causing fear among residents in the surrounding area. No casualties were reported, and serious damage was avoided due to a quick community response.
According to local sources, the first fire broke out at around 10:10 am, while a second fire occurred at approximately 1:10 pm in the same shelter located in Block C6. The shelter belongs to Showkot Ara, daughter of Jafor Alom, and falls under the coverage area of Nur Huda Mahji and Head Mahji Mohammed Solim.
Cause of fire unclear
Residents said both fires started in areas away from the kitchen, raising concerns about the possible cause. Community members said this unusual pattern has led to fear and uncertainty among families living nearby.
“We were shocked because the fire happened twice in the same shelter on the same day,” said one resident. “It did not start from the kitchen. We are trying to understand how this could happen again.”
Community response prevents spread
In both incidents, nearby residents responded quickly and worked together to control the flames before they spread to adjacent shelters. Their rapid action prevented what could have become a major fire in the densely populated block.
No injuries were reported, and damage was limited.
Residents call for investigation
Although no one was harmed, the repeated fire incidents in the same shelter have heightened anxiety among camp residents. People said the situation raises serious questions about safety inside the camp.
“This incident has made us afraid,” said another resident. “When a fire happens twice in the same shelter, authorities need to investigate before something worse happens.”
Camp residents are urging authorities and relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the fires and take preventive measures to reduce fire risks and ensure safety in Camp 2W.
