Maungdaw, November 7, 2025 — Two Rohingya men from Thu Oo Hlar village in northern Maungdaw were abducted by members of the Arakan Army (AA) on October 27, according to local residents.
Witnesses said around 200 heavily armed AA troops surrounded the village early that morning. Residents were forced to gather at the local school while soldiers conducted house-to-house searches.
Villagers reported being kept under the sun for hours without food or water as the AA claimed it was searching for members of other armed groups. During the operation, two men were taken away — 38-year-old Abu Bokor, son of Nur Hussain, and 34-year-old Mohammed Toyub, son of Abul Hussain.
One of the abducted men is reportedly a person with a disability and was in poor health at the time of his arrest, but he was still taken to an unknown location.
Local witnesses said a man named Mohammed Roshid, known for working as an informant for both the Arakan Army and the Myanmar Military, assisted the AA during the raid and was directly involved in the abduction.
Family members of the victims said they have not received any information about the whereabouts or condition of their loved ones since that day. The incident has deepened fear and insecurity among residents of Thu Oo Hlar and nearby villages, where reports of arbitrary arrests and abductions by the AA have become increasingly frequent.
