Kutupalong, Cox’s Bazar – January 17, 2025: Two individuals suspected of attempting to abduct a child were apprehended today at around 12:00 PM in Noka Field, Camp 06, within the Kutupalong Rohingya Refugee Camp. The suspects, reportedly from Chal Bagan, Teknaf, were stopped by vigilant community members while allegedly targeting a child near Musara Bazar.
Eyewitnesses noted that the suspects had been loitering near a group of children and behaving suspiciously, raising alarm among residents. Concerned members of the community intervened, detaining the pair until they could be handed over to the camp authorities.
This incident has heightened existing fears among camp residents about the rising trend of child abductions, where children are often taken for ransom or subjected to harm. Outraged by the attempt, community leaders have demanded justice.
“Our children are our hope and future. We cannot allow such crimes to terrorize our families. If these individuals are guilty, they must face severe punishment to ensure this doesn’t happen again,” said a respected community elder.
Camp authorities have confirmed that the suspects are under investigation, and they reassured residents that steps are being taken to address security concerns. Families are being encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities immediately.
This incident underscores the urgent need for stronger safety measures within the camps to protect children and restore a sense of security among the Rohingya community.
