A 16 year old Rohingya girl was reportedly taken from her home in Buthidaung Township in Arakan State on 21 February, as members of the Arakan Army allegedly removed her for military recruitment, according to local residents.
The incident took place in Phonnyo Leik village. Residents said armed members of the Arakan Army came to the house and took the girl away. Since then, her family has had no contact with her and does not know where she is being held.
The girl is the granddaughter of U Abul Hashim and the daughter of U Shawmsul Norbi. Family members remain in distress as they wait for information about her whereabouts and condition.
Rohingya residents told Rohingya Khobor that fear is spreading across villages in the area.
“People are very scared. We are hiding our children because we are afraid they will be taken,” said a local man who requested anonymity due to security concerns.
Another Rohingya woman from the village said, “They are not only asking for men. Now they are also taking young girls. This is very worrying for us as parents.”
A third resident told Rohingya Khobor, “Many families are thinking about leaving the village. We do not feel safe anymore, and we do not know who will be next.”
Local sources said some families have already left their homes to avoid possible arrests. Others are keeping their children indoors or sending them to stay with relatives in what they believe are safer areas.
Community members say they are deeply concerned about the safety and health of the 16 year old girl. Her family continues to hope for her safe return.
