Interactive Voice Response system or simply known as IVR will be soon in operation in the Rohingya Refugee Camps. It will accelerate interaction with the refugees. Furthermore, many common queries will be automated.
Recently the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) has approved UNHCR to use the IVR technology.
IVR is mostly used to automate response and direct the contacting person to the right department or information.
UNHCR has already conducted a pilot project on 14 May 2020, by interacting with 20,000 refugees.
UNHCR can send SMS and MMS recorded message through the system alerting emergency situations, such as flooding, Covid19 etc.
The Rohingyas are excited about the technology and hoping they would receive voice messages in the Rohingya languages, rather than English or Bengali text which they are not familiar with.
Young Rohingyas are also hoping to be employed and trained to work in the call centres and response centres.
