Masked men set fire to houses in the Dummai hamlet of Taung Bazaar in Buthidaung on Thursday night.
At least eight houses were completely destroyed in the village. The crime took place despite heavy military presence in the area, fuelling suspicions that the attack was carried out by forces aligned to the government.
Buddhist vigilantes backed by government forces have gone on an arson spree in all the three frontier townships in recent days. The attacks have spelled renewed terror among the already terrorised Rohingyas, at least 10,000 of whom having been killed in the military operations of 2017.
The arson attacks along with a undeclared curfew is forcing the remaining Rohingyas to take preparations for joining the exodus to Bangladesh.
