Balukhali, Camp 09 – January 12, 2025
At approximately 7:45 PM, a fire broke out in the Rohingya market located in Camp 09, Balukhali. Initial reports suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit in a solar-powered battery. Thanks to the swift response of the local community, the fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread further.
Only one shop was partially affected by the fire, and no injuries have been reported. The quick action by residents prevented what could have been a much larger disaster in the densely populated camp.
Authorities have urged camp residents to exercise caution when using solar-powered devices and to conduct regular safety checks to prevent similar incidents in the future. This event serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in the camps, where the risk of such incidents remains high due to the use of improvised electrical setups.
Further investigations are ongoing to ensure such accidents are minimized in the future, and local leaders have reiterated the need for community awareness programs to promote safety protocols in the camp.
