Jamtuli Camp 27, Cox’s Bazar | December 13, 2025
A fire broke out early Saturday morning in Jamtuli Camp 27, damaging two shelters in Block C2 and leaving affected families without basic household items, according to local residents. No injuries were reported.
The fire started around 7:00 am and spread quickly before nearby residents rushed in to contain it, preventing the flames from reaching surrounding shelters. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Ayub Khan, a resident of Jamtuli Camp, said the fire began suddenly and caught families off guard. He said community members acted immediately to control the blaze using whatever means they had available.
Although no one was hurt, the families whose shelters were damaged lost parts of their homes and essential belongings. As of Saturday, they had not received any emergency assistance or relief support.
The incident has been reported to UNHCR through the camp SMS reporting system. Affected families are now waiting for support, including shelter repair materials and basic relief items.
Residents of the camp said fire incidents remain a constant threat, particularly during early morning hours when most people are inside their shelters. They called for faster emergency response and stronger fire prevention measures to reduce risks and protect families from future accidents.
