Camp-4Ext, Cox’s Bazar – A devastating fire broke out at Camp-4Ext in front of GK Hospital and near the fire services center on the night of December 3, 2024, at approximately 8:00 PM. The blaze originated in Block C3, specifically at Nur Fatema Majhi Block, and quickly spread, leaving destruction in its wake.
Rohingya residents, alongside the fire services team, worked tirelessly to contain the flames. Despite their swift efforts, two shelters were completely reduced to ashes, while three others sustained significant damage. The affected families lost all their belongings but, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, with an investigation currently underway. This incident has reignited calls from residents for enhanced fire safety measures in the camp, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by communities in overcrowded refugee settlements.
“These fires spread fast in areas like ours. We need better fire prevention systems to avoid tragedies like this,” one resident urged.
