January 16, 2025, Nayapara Refugee Camp (Cox’s Bazar):
A devastating fire broke out around 10:30 PM in the Mosuni section of Camp-26, Block G-2, leaving more than 50 shelters completely destroyed and over 10 others severely damaged. The fire has claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl, a tragic loss that has deeply shaken the camp community.
In addition to this heartbreaking casualty, five children have been reported missing in the aftermath of the incident, sparking fears for their safety. Camp residents, already grappling with difficult living conditions, are now facing immense challenges as the fire has left many families homeless and in urgent need of assistance.
Local volunteers and camp authorities worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and provide immediate relief to the affected families. However, the loss of life and displacement has caused widespread grief and despair among the residents.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing children and provide support to those who have lost their homes. Humanitarian organizations are being urged to intervene promptly to ensure the affected families receive shelter, food, and other essential services.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. This tragedy highlights the pressing need for enhanced safety measures within the refugee camps to prevent such incidents in the future.
