Four abducted Rohingyas returned from Alikhali Hill in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar after two days. For this, a ransom of five lakh taka was paid.
They were released near the camp after paying ransom on Monday (5 June) evening. The four returned abductees are Mohammad Yunus (32), son of Noor Hossain (32), son of Alikhali Camp-25 Block D/22/ of Hnila Union, Mohammad Sultan (24), son of Mohammad Rafiq of the same camp, Abdullah (16), son of Abdur Rahman and Anwar Islam (18) son of Mohammad Sayed.
A community leader (Majhi) of the camp, who did not want to be named, said that on Monday evening, the miscreants released four Rohingyas with a ransom of five lakh taka. They were given first aid at the NGO hospital. APBN police later handed them over to their families. Earlier last Sunday evening, Jahangir Alam, who was abducted, was left with his hands cut off near the camp. On getting the news, the people of the camp rescued him and took him to the hospital.
Refugee elders claim that Rohingya refugees sheltered in Cox’s Bazar camps have no opportunities to work. They are fully dependent to humanitarian organizations to survive. In such condition, how they will meet the demand of ransom of huge amount? Abduction as well as robbery is being believed that some influential parties are purposefully doing this to compel world most persecuted refugees to repatriation or shift to Bhasanchar of Noakhali.
