Today, Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen stated that many international NGOs including, UNHCR are putting pressure on Bangladesh concerning the relocation of the Rohingyas to Bhasan Char despite a few Rohingyas showed interest to settle there. He added, “UNHCR and other INGOs want to go for examination before relocation”.
He also added that initially 1,00,000 Rohingyas will be migrated as per government’s plan. Bangladesh thinks it will minimise the risk of deaths due to landslides in Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps. Many facilities were built to put Rohingyas in economic activities and earn their own livelihood.
Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch has asked the Bangladesh government to allow the United Nations (UN) technical and humanitarian protection teams to visit Bhashan Char to assess the condition.
