Hlun Htein soldiers accompanied by Rakhines in civilian clothes looted the entire market in Kawar Bil (Kya Kan Pyin), Maungdaw North.
The looters arrived on Monday at around 3.30 pm and stayed there for three hours. When the Rohingyas sensed the border police approaching, they fled the marketplace and stayed at a safe distance.
Those with shops in the market have lost everything in the looting. Some of the shop keepers say they don’t know they are going to survive in the future.
The area has borne the brunt of the military offensive as the border post which was attacked by suspected Muslim rebels is in the area. Since then, villagers are on the alert and run away every time security forces approach the area.
There are reports of casualties as the army fires automatic weapons towards the village.
