A total of 53 Rohingya men and women, 39 men and 14 women, were arrested between August 19th to 26th near the village of Maghum Pyin, Thandwe township, Arakan state, according to the Rakhine daily news of the Rakhine state military council.
The arrested Rohingya came from Maungdaw Township to work in Yangon and on August 16, they were caught while hiding in the forest near the beach their boat was damaged by a strong wind storm.
Among them, 28 were caught on August 19 from a mountain near Go Ward and the rest were caught on August 23 and 26, the statement added.
Rakhine daily reported that they are currently working to open a case against those arrested under the Immigration Act.
