A top UNICEF official has sought the release of Rohingya children detained in the clearance operation last year.
Children as young as 10 have been detained and tortured by security forces, especially in October and November on allegations of being involved in militancy.
A Reuters report identified 13 children in custody, but local sources believe the number is likely to be higher.
Our sources in Buthidaung prison have said juvenile prisoners not only face brutal beatings on a daily basis, but are subjected to sexual assault.
UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Justin Forsyth had requested Aung San Suu Kyi to release the children but there have been no results.
The arrested children have not been able to comtact their families.
Many children were also killed, while infants were thrown into the fire by security personal during the operation.
