Hundreds of newly arrived Rohingya families in Camp-20 are facing life-threatening conditions as they struggle without adequate food, shelter, or medical care. Fleeing violence and persecution in Myanmar, these refugees find themselves abandoned in overcrowded camps with little support from humanitarian organizations.
Reports indicate that families are forced to build makeshift shelters using bamboo, plastic sheets, and discarded materials.
“We came here seeking safety, but we have no food, no shelter, and no one to help us,” said Mohammad Karim, a newly arrived refugee. These desperate conditions expose them to extreme weather, hunger, and disease.
The situation worsens with escalating security threats, as refugees report rising incidents of extortion, kidnapping, and violence by criminal elements.
In a shocking development on the morning of February 11, camp authorities in Balukhali demolished newly built shelters of Rohingya from Maungdaw Township, telling them,
“We are arranging everything for you.” Abdul Rahim, another refugee, lamented, “We lost everything in Myanmar and fled here for survival. Now our homes are destroyed—where will we go?”
Human rights groups urgently call for international intervention to address this humanitarian neglect and protect these vulnerable families.
