The Arakan Army (AA), now in full control of northern Rakhine State, including the Buthidaung and Maungdaw areas, is being urged by 28 Rohingya organizations worldwide to protect the rights of Rohingyas and other minority groups living in the region.
Approximately 500,000 Rohingyas are believed to reside in these areas. The organizations have called on AA leaders to ensure their soldiers respect the human rights of Rohingyas and refrain from causing harm.
The statement emphasizes the need for international support to rebuild Rakhine State while urging the AA to uphold human rights, fairness, the rule of law, and freedom of speech. The groups noted that the global community is closely monitoring how the AA addresses human rights in the region.
“Rohingyas are equal citizens of Rakhine and should not be treated as enemies,” the statement reads. “Instead, they should be seen as partners in rebuilding the future of Rakhine.”
A critical point in the appeal highlights the importance of creating conditions that allow Rohingyas currently in Bangladesh to return to their homeland safely, voluntarily, and with dignity.
The call for action reflects growing concerns about the treatment of minority groups in Rakhine under the AA’s control. It underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to foster regional peace and stability.
