A landmine explosion in Sittwe Township, Arakan State, seriously wounded La La Ya, a 19-year-old Rohingya man, on July 24, 2024. The explosion occurred while La La Ya was walking from the paddy field to his home in Ohn Taw Gyi village. Tragically, the Myanmar military planted a landmine that caused him to lose his right leg.
Due to severe movement restrictions in Sittwe City, La La Ya is unable to access necessary medical treatment. The Rohingya community faces additional dangers due to heavy mining in the area surrounding the camps.
