A Rohingya from Malaysia said, “The authorities said that a Rohingya woman died in their cell on March 17. Her body is still there because they have not been able to contact her relatives. If she has relatives, they can take her and bury her.”
A Rohingya who was released from Malaysian prison said, “The way Rohingyas and other ethnic groups are treated in the detention center is completely different. They are very tortured. They don’t even have the freedom to practice their religion. They only have two sets of clothing in the detention center. For men, they can live in underwear and eat, but for women, it is very difficult. It is not normal.”
“And one of the worst things is that if you are arrested, you cannot have contact with your family at all. Many families do not know whether their children are dead or alive. When I was arrested, there were more than 30 people in my room. 11 of them have not been in contact with their families for more than 2 or 3 years. Ever since I was arrested,” he added.
Some of the Rohingya who were arrested in Malaysia have not been able to contact their families and relatives, and the family members do not know what the situation of their children is.
