Three Rohingya men from Tharaik Oak village in Maungdaw Township were shot at by the Arakan Army after being returned from Bangladesh, leaving one detained and two missing, according to local sources.
The three men had travelled to Bangladesh for medical treatment using permission letters issued by the Arakan Army. On March 22, they were detained by Bangladesh’s Border Guard forces while crossing the Naf River and were later sent back to the Myanmar side near an Arakan Army camp close to their village.
Local residents said that at around 5:12 PM, as the men were returning home, Arakan Army members opened fire near the Chaungwa camp. The shooting reportedly lasted for about 10 minutes.
During the incident, one of the men, identified as 26-year-old Halaya from Tharaik Oak village, was taken into custody. The other two men went missing during the gunfire, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
Residents said no bodies have been recovered so far, and it is still unclear whether the missing men are alive.
The incident has raised concern among local communities, particularly for those who need to travel outside the area for medical treatment.
