A 12-year-old Rohingya child was killed and eight others were injured after a tractor overturned in Minbya Township, Rakhine State, on the morning of March 22, according to local sources.

The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. near Thadar village and Thay Kone village. The vehicle, locally known as a “Htawlar Gyi,” reportedly lost control and overturned on the roadside.

The child who died has been identified as Mohammad Islam, son of Mohammed Sultan and Naru Faw Nisa from Aung Taing village. He died at the scene.

Eight other children from nearby villages were injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Among the injured are Jaw Nofa (12), Mohammed Ruran (14), Taslima Bibi (13), Shawmi Bibi (12), Jawno Bibi (12), Hazuwana Ser (11), Nur Jahan Bibi (9), and Janoda Bibi (13), according to local sources.

Residents said the children were traveling between villages to attend an Islamic religious event when the accident occurred.

According to local accounts, the metal base of the tractor broke near Thay Kone village, causing the driver to lose control before the vehicle overturned.

The incident has caused deep sadness among the local Rohingya community.
