A temporary shelter used by the World Food Programme was destroyed after a fire spread from a nearby paddy field in Wethali village in northern Maungdaw Township, according to local sources.
The incident occurred on 6 March when local residents were burning dry grass in a field near the village. A local resident said the fire quickly spread from the field toward the nearby World Food Programme warehouse compound.
As the flames spread, a temporary shelter inside the compound caught fire and was completely burned down. The structure was described as a simple building measuring approximately 16 feet in length, 8 feet in width, and 8 feet in height.
The fire reportedly started around 1:40 p.m. Firefighters later arrived at the scene and worked to control the flames.
According to local sources, the fire was fully extinguished at around 3:00 p.m.
