On 30 October 2022 (Sunday) afternoon, a flag meeting between Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) and Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) was held in Shahporir Deep of Teknaf Police station, where many issues were discussed including stopping infiltration and unrest in the Myanmar border near Bangladesh. The BGP expressed regret about the casualties caused by firing from the border into Bangladesh.

Bangladesh- Myanmar border guard reached an agreement that they will work together to abate tensions at the border.

Before this, around 9 am, the lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammed Iftekar welcomed 7 members of Myanmar delegation team at Jeti Ghat of Shahporir Deep and they were later taken to Shahporir Deep BOP, where both parties sat in flag meeting.

The delegation of 7 members from Myanmar was led by Col. Koe Na Yan Kyaw, the commanding officer of BGP Branch no, 1 of Maungdaw, while 8 members delegation team from Bangladesh side was led by BGB captain Lt. Colonel Sheikh Khalid Mohammad Iftekar.

The residents of the border want no more tensions on the border, not a meeting, security analysts said and added that the main purpose of the flag meeting is to send a message to refrain from such actions that lead to misunderstandings for the two countries.

Over the last three months a Rohingya died on the zero line after a mortar shell explosion by Myanmar. And a Rohingya teenager died in a mine explosion that Myanmar forces planted on the border.

BGB Director (Operation) Lieut. Colonel Faizur Rahman said that the conflict inside Myanmar should not affect Bangladesh, there should be no illegal intrusion on the border and the development of good relations between the border guarding forces of the two countries have been emphasized.

BGB contacted Myanmar’s BGP to reduce tension in addition to repeatedly protesting against such situation at the border. After proposing a flag meeting, Myanmar finally agreed to a flag meeting at the battalion commander level after 3 months.
