In Cox’s Bazar’s Jamtuli Rohingya Camp, the body of one of two Rohingya youths kidnapped by members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) has been found. Five days ago, ARSA members abducted the two young men, leaving their families and the entire community in distress. The status of the second youth remains unknown, and authorities have yet to confirm if he is alive.
According to residents of Jamtuli Camp, ARSA members took the two young men from their homes for unclear reasons. ARSA, an armed group, has previously been linked to various incidents of violence within Rohingya refugee camps. This incident has heightened fears among residents about the safety of their community.
After five days of being missing, the discovery of one of the youth’s bodies has left the camp in mourning. The community had hoped for the safe return of both young men. Now, the family of the missing youth is left anxious, hoping for any news of his whereabouts.
This tragedy has sparked new calls for improved security in the camp. Frustrated by rising violence from armed groups, community members are urging authorities and international organizations to strengthen security measures and find those responsible. This heartbreaking incident highlights the struggles and risks faced by Rohingya refugees, who, despite fleeing violence in Myanmar, continue to live in fear.
