Dozens of people were reportedly killed and injured in an airstrike near the India Market and Gissapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw Township on Monday, according to local media reports.
One Nation News reported that at least 53 people were killed and 40 others injured in the strike, citing local sources and people involved in rescue operations.
According to the report, the strike took place shortly after noon on September 28, hitting an area around the India Market and Gissapanadi Bridge.
The market was reportedly busy when the attack occurred, resulting in heavy civilian casualties.
One Nation News initially reported a lower death toll but later said rescue workers had recovered 20 additional bodies while searching the affected area, bringing the reported number of deaths to 53. The number of injured was also reported to have risen from 36 to 40.
Rescue operations were continuing, and the casualty figures could change as further information emerges.
The reported attack comes amid continuing airstrikes by Myanmar junta forces across Arakan State.
