A seven-year-old Rohingya boy returned to his family after relatives paid Tk150,000 to people holding him captive, according to the family’s account.
Relatives said the boy was abducted on November 1 in the Musoni camp area of Teknaf. His captors initially demanded Tk300,000, they said.
The family said it arranged half that amount and made the payment at around 8 p.m. on November 3. According to their account, the boy was released shortly afterwards.
His identity is being withheld because of concerns for his safety.
A relative living in Malaysia said the boy’s return brought relief, but the family remained afraid of further attacks and wanted action against those responsible.
Separately, Bangladeshi media reported that 16 Armed Police Battalion personnel recovered a seven-year-old boy with matching identifying details near Mouchoni market and handed him to relatives. Those reports did not address the alleged ransom payment and contained conflicting references to the recovery date.
Rohingya Khobor has not independently verified the payment or established the sequence between the reported release and police recovery
