Maungdaw township: On Wednesday (October 12) the locals from southern and northern Maungdaw of Rakhine state said they are in doleful condition, as Myanmar military council blocked roads following the continued tensions between Arakan Army (AA) and military council.
The locals said that due to traffic blockage, inhabitants of southern and northern Maungdaw are suffering from livelihood collection and taking emergency medical care, including collecting daily necessities.
Since mid-August, only government employees and those in charge of village administration have been allowed to travel in the northern and southern villages of Maungdaw.
“The villagers are facing difficulties due to the restriction of access to the livelihood” a local said and added that some of the local residents of Maungdaw were caught by the police while crossing streams to get food and medicine.
“In addition, International organizations (INGOs) and local humanitarian organizations that work to supply food and medicine in need have also been blocked,” another local added by saying more that they want the UN and the international community to put pressure on the military council.
As military posed restrictions on movement and detaining those who go on roads and fields, the price of daily necessary goods are being hiked. The villagers are unable to take the urgent medical care going to hospitals in town or qualified doctors. And so, both Rohingyas and Rakhines are suffering a lot in Maungdaw.
