Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is working with International community to ensure Rohingya repatriation to Myanmar. Rohingyas are a “big burden” for Bangladesh. She thinks India can play a big role in solving this. She discussed this while she had a conversation with country’s news agency (ANI) during her visit to India.

Prime Minister Hasina mentioned that the presence of millions of Rohingya in Bangladesh has created a challenge for her government. She said there are 1.1 million Rohingya in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is discussing with the international community and neighboring countries, the return of Rohingyas to their country, India should also take some steps.

The Prime Minister said, “My government has been trying to take care of the displaced community considering the humanitarian aspects.”

PM also said “we sheltered the Rohingyas for humanitarian reasons. I give them everything. We have vaccinated all the Rohingya during this Corona period. But how long will they stay here? There is an environmental risk in the Rohingya camp area. Some are involved in drug dealing, some in armed conflict, some in women trafficking. Day by day it is increasing,” PM said adding that returning Rohingyas to their home country is better for both Bangladesh and Myanmar.

“So we are trying our best to convince them. We are discussing with them, the international community including ASEAN-UN. I am discussing with different countries,” PM added.

Sheikh Hasina said that when the Rohingyas faced many problems, Bangladesh gave them shelter. But now they should go back home.
