The Rohingya community in Maungdaw Township of Rakhine State is reeling from another tragic incident of violence. On the morning of July 30, 2024, the Arakan Army (AA) launched a drone attack on Ward 5, resulting in the deaths of two Rohingya individuals and injuring four others. The attack occurred around 8 AM, targeting an area where Myanmar military forces are stationed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the AA’s drone strikes have become a frequent occurrence, contributing to the escalating violence in the region. The recent attack is part of a broader pattern of drone and artillery assaults by the AA, which have been particularly severe in areas with significant Rohingya populations.
The conflict between the Arakan Army and Myanmar military has placed the Rohingya in an increasingly perilous situation. Reports indicate that civilian areas are often caught in the crossfire, leading to numerous casualties and widespread displacement. Humanitarian access remains severely restricted, compounding the difficulties faced by the affected communities.
