Dhaka, 10 September 2026: Rohingya community representatives Ro Khin Maung and Sayed Ullah participated in an international conference in Dhaka on Thursday examining possible approaches to the prolonged Rohingya crisis.
The day-long conference, titled “Protracted Rohingya Crisis: The Search for a Comprehensive Approach,” was held at the Foreign Service Academy.
It was jointly organised by the Department of International Relations and the Center for Genocide Studies at the University of Dhaka, in collaboration with the Foreign Service Academy and UNHCR.
Ro Khin Maung is a member of the President Panel of the United Council of Rohingya (UCR), while Sayed Ullah previously served as the council’s first rotating president.
Their participation brought Rohingya community perspectives into discussions involving diplomats, academics, researchers, civil society representatives and international organisations.
The conference examined issues including international burden-sharing, declining humanitarian assistance, safe and voluntary repatriation, accountability through international courts and longer-term approaches to the Rohingya crisis.
Rohingya representatives have repeatedly called for meaningful participation in decisions concerning their future, arguing that discussions on repatriation, rights and protection should not take place without direct Rohingya involvement.
Organisers said recommendations from the conference would be used to prepare a policy brief aimed at informing future policy discussions on the Rohingya crisis.
