Sub-election commission rejects a previously approved Rohingya candidate

On 1 October, Maungdaw district sub-election commission rejected U Doud Muhammad @Aye Win, who was previously allowed to compete as a candidate for the Lower House Constituency of Maungdaw.

On 30 August, U Aye Win was approved as a candidate for Maungdaw constituency on behalf of Democracy and Human Rights Party (DHRP).

U Kyaw Soe Aung, general secretary of DHRP said,” While U Aye Win’s father was a township police officer, his son is denied the fundamental right to stand for election.” He further added, “denial of U Aye Win from his “right to stand” is a reflection of the debasement of the election commission.”
