On Tuesday, 30 individuals from Chicago Rohingya community were able to vote for the very “first” time in their life at Warren Park. Rohingyas have been denied their citizenship and were rendered stateless in their own country and effectively, their right to vote is denied.

One of the voters, Bibi Sabura who came to the USA five years ago expressed her feelings and said, “I am 46 years old and this is my first time voting. In my country, we could never vote.”

Myanmar is going to hold its general election on 8th November where the government has denied the right to vote and the right to stand for office.

About 30 members of the Rohingya community gathered at Warren Park on Oct. 20, 2020 in Chicago, Ill. About half the members were there to vote for the very first time after being denied the right in Myanmar. The others were there in support and to learn about the voting process.
