On last Friday, a film on Rohingya refugee was screened at the opening of 26th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). The film is directed by Kumar Chowdhury.

The film named ‘Priyo Chinar Pata, Iti Segun’ (Fire of Teak Flame of Chinar) on a Rohingya refugee. The film is nominated in the competition at the Asian Select section of the festival. The story of the movie is inspired by the real-life story of a Rohingya girl whose story was published in a journal.

The director told the reporters, he was driven to make this movie when he saw an image of a Syrian child of Kurdish background in newspapers, which reflected the travails of the refugees.
