An attack in the middle of the river has left a fisherman seriously injured.

On Monday at around 3pm, Osman was fishing in a small boat along with two others, when unidentified assailants from another boat hit him hard on the hand with an oar. Following the attack, the miscreants quickly left the spot.

The attack has left Osman with a broken hand. His two companions are reported unscathed from the incident.

Fishing and logging are the last two remaining livelihoods left for the depraved Rohingya community in Arakan. But the last few years have seen an alarming rise in attacks against fishermen and loggers as they venture out to earn a livelihood. Rohingya activists allege this is a systemic effort to deprive the population of their means of survival and force them out of the country.fisherman broken hand
