Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to continue supporting efforts related to the Rohingya crisis and the long-term humanitarian response.
He made the remarks during a meeting with ambassadors and high commissioners from OIC member countries at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Tuesday.
According to officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, discussions included regional cooperation, humanitarian challenges, and continued international engagement regarding Rohingya refugees living in camps in Cox’s Bazar.
The prime minister thanked OIC countries for their ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian support for Rohingya refugees and said Bangladesh hopes to maintain close cooperation with Muslim-majority countries on the issue.
Officials said broader discussions also covered trade, investment, education, healthcare, textiles, and pharmaceutical cooperation between Bangladesh and OIC member states.
Representatives from several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Pakistan, Qatar, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates attended the meeting.
The discussions come as humanitarian agencies continue to warn about funding shortages, prolonged displacement, and uncertainty surrounding the future of Rohingya refugees in the region.
