Yesterday, Bangladesh Coast Guards (BCG) stopped a wooden boat from Bay Of Bengal which was carrying 119 Rohingya refugees who were heading for Malaysia. This is the highest number of Rohingya found in a vessel at sea this year.

According to the officials, the boat was about to sink.

Coast Guard spokesman Saiful Islam reported that the vessel was found in the Bay of Bengal, just off the coast of Bangladesh’s Southern Saint Martin’s island.

“We found that the boat was taking water due to engine failure. It was about to sink. Had we not reached there in time, it would have sunk,” Islam said.

Every year, hundreds of Robingyas escapes from refugee camp for lack of jobs and education in the camps who believes to have a better future in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

So far this year, Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies have picked up over 500 Rohingya from coastal villages and boats as they waited to board boats bound for Malaysia.
