Yangoon: On 19 October (Wednesday) around 9:40 am, bomb explosion and gun fire took place at parcel reception room in Insein prison that killed 8 people including 3 prison officers.
The deceased are Kyaw Zin Oo, a soldier from the Department of Finance, soldier Khin Moe Wai and soldier Poe Ei Zan. The rest are civilians who went to deliver parcels to their incarcerated relatives whose names yet to be known.
“It happened inside. Many staff members were hit by the explosion. 2 female and 1 male staff member died on the spot. Some died in the hospital. There were many injured,” a person close to Insein Prison told the reporter.
“Soon after the bomb went off, the shelling started indiscriminately, and those who came to the prison rushed hither and thither, where bullet hit some of the people. Some died on the spot while many received severe injury,” according to locals.
No one knows the reason behind the bomb blast and gunfire and even it has not been known yet which group carried out the attack
Investigating the place where the explosion happened and the area around the prison is underway.
