On 9 September 2022 (Friday) at around 12:30 pm, a Rohingya refugee breathed his last at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) while undergoing treatment for kidney problem. Despite medical authority discharged the body has been blocked-out by police from taking home till the time of writing this report.

The deceased is Molovi Nurul Hakim (36) son of late, Din Mohammed of H block H in Nayapara registered refugee camp under Teknaf police station.

Nur Alam younger brother of deceased told Rohingya Khobor (RK) that late night of 27 August 2022 Nurul Hakim fell down and received serious injury over waist when he went out for toilet. And the next morning Hakim went to Nayapara Refugee Health Unit (RHU) where the doctor pushed him one ample injection and advised for check up privately.

“On 29 August 2022 early morning, Hakim went to RHU again with the papers of privately check up and seeing the papers the on duty doctor referred him to Cox’sbazar hospital by saying Hakim’s kidney has been affected,” Alam said this and added that on the same day the on duty doctors of Cox’s bazar hospital advised to go to Chittagong for urgent required treatment, but due to lack of permission from Camp in Charge (CiC) for going to Chittagong, Hakim had to come back home in severe condition.

“On 1 September the CiC approved his referral petition after lobbying much, and the Medical Team Leader (MTL) of Nayapara base RHU referred Hakim to Cox’s Bazar and then to Chittagong hospital, where Hakim died on Friday noon,” Alam added.

Despite hospital authority released the body after procedure, the Officer In Charge (OC) of Kutuwali police station has blocked the body from taking home without any reasons. Even OC has not released the body till the writing of this report.

Md. Noor another brother of Hakim reported to RK that since 4 pm they have been trying for administrative help from camp authorities, but unfortunately there is still no result.

At present the family members of Hakim fear whether they can complete the funeral prayer and burial proceedings.

“This is not the new incident to refugees as since last few years the underprivileged refugees have been facing this type of heinous act due to extreme inadvertency of United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other INGOs and NGOs working for refugees in the camps”, the refugees claim.
