Cox’s Bazar, September 29, 2026: A five-year-old Rohingya child was reportedly killed in Camp 2 East on Monday night, September 28 around 9 pm, according to camp sources.
The child was identified as Mohammed Omair, son of Mohammed Hassan and Shabnur. He was five years old and was registered under FCN 507634.
According to an incident report from camp sources, the incident happened at around 9:30 PM in the C-6 area of Camp 2E. The report described the incident as an alleged child murder.
Camp sources identified the alleged suspect as Feros Mia, who was reportedly the child’s stepfather. The sources said Feros is from the host community and is a Bangladeshi national.
According to the initial report, Omair was the son of Feros’s second wife. The incident reportedly happened when the child’s mother, Shabnur, was not present.
Sources said the child suffered a serious injury to his neck during the alleged attack. The child was reportedly killed following the injury.
The alleged suspect reportedly runs a Jalmuri business in the area. After the incident, he reportedly left the location immediately, and his current whereabouts were not immediately known.
The incident was reported in the area under Sub-Majhi Rofique and Head Majhi Jafor. Another incident report mentioned the location as Block C5 under CIC and Block C8 under UNHCR, while the child’s registration details identified the location as Block C-6.
The exact circumstances of the incident, including the cause of the child’s death and the motive behind the alleged attack, have not yet been independently verified.
Camp sources said the case requires investigation by the concerned authorities. The whereabouts of the alleged suspect also need to be confirmed by law enforcement.
