Panchagarh, 3 September 2026: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained four Rohingya refugees, including two women, near the Bangladesh-India border in Panchagarh while they were allegedly trying to enter India with the help of human traffickers.
The four were detained at around 6:00 a.m. on 1 September near sub-pillar No. 4 of main pillar No. 742 in the Titihipara area of Satmera Union, Panchagarh Sadar Upazila. The location is around 600 yards inside Bangladesh near the Magurmari border.
The detainees were identified as Md Enayetullah, 23, and his wife Zainub Bibi, 21, residents of Rohingya refugee Camp 7 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, and Enamul Hasan, 23, and his wife Nur Kalima, 20, residents of Camp 15 in Jamtoli, Ukhiya.
According to BGB, the four said during initial questioning that a group of six to seven human traffickers had brought them to the border area to help them enter India in exchange for Tk 60,000.
BGB said the suspected traffickers fled after noticing border guards, leaving the four behind. They also allegedly took away the mobile phones used by the detainees.
A BGB member from the Magurmari Border Outpost later filed a case with Panchagarh Sadar Police Station under the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Act against six to seven unidentified suspected traffickers.
The four Rohingya were handed over to Panchagarh Sadar Police Station later that night.
Police said preparations were underway to produce them before a court.
