UKHIYA, Cox’s Bazar, 13 August 2026: A Rohingya woman was seriously injured after a gas cylinder reportedly exploded while she was cooking at a shelter in Camp 8E in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, on Thursday afternoon.
The incident occurred at around 3:50 p.m. in Sub-Block B/B3, according to information provided by the affected family.
Family members said the woman was cooking rice when the cylinder reportedly exploded, triggering a fire that quickly spread inside the shelter.
She sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Further information about her condition was not immediately available.
Residents rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread to neighbouring shelters.
The fire damaged the family’s shelter and belongings. The exact cause of the reported cylinder explosion has not yet been confirmed.
