Germany has pledged an additional €2 million to support Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox’s Bazar, bringing its total grant for a social and economic support project to €7 million.

Bangladesh and Germany signed a memorandum of understanding in Dhaka on October 18, according to a press release published by The Business Standard.

The funding will support the “Socio-Economic Support for Host and FDMN Communities in Cox’s Bazar” project, known as Shade. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is implementing the project, which aims to support peaceful coexistence between refugees and local residents.

Economic Relations Division Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed for Bangladesh, while GIZ Country Director Mark Gombert signed for Germany.

Germany previously committed €5 million to the project. The announcement concerns additional grant support; it does not establish when the new funding will reach participating communities.
