State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has once again denied allegations of ethnic cleansing.
In an interview with the BBC, Suu Kyi attributed the troubles of Arakan to hostility between two communities, and refused to acknowledge that the Rohingya Muslims are victims of a state sponsored strategy of ethnic cleasning. She also said there were cases of “Muslims killing Muslims”.
She also claimed that Myanmar is free to accept any returning Rohingyas with open arms.
Myanmar has however so far refused to accept hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees living on the Bangladesh side of the border.
Suu Kyi also defended army actions saying “They are not free to rape, pillage and torture…they are free to go in and fight. That is in the constitution. Military matters are to be left to the army.”
