A Rohingya community leader was reportedly shot and injured in Camp 18 on Sunday night, October 11, after armed men allegedly opened fire near his shelter.
The man was identified as Sirajul Islam, also known as Bhuiya, a majhi in Camp 18.
According to information provided to Rohingya Khobor by community sources, the incident took place at around 11:10 pm while Sirajul was sitting outside his shelter.
A neighbour alleged that the attackers fired four shots, one of which struck Sirajul in the head. The witness also claimed that one of the armed men pointed a gun towards him before family members and neighbours rushed to help, prompting the attackers to flee.
Sirajul was reportedly taken to an MSF hospital in Camp 8W for treatment. His current medical condition has not been independently confirmed.
A complaint shared with Rohingya Khobor named several suspected individuals and alleged links to armed groups operating in the camps. However, the identities of the attackers and any organisational involvement remain unverified.
Community sources said authorities had been informed of the incident. No official confirmation of an investigation or arrests was available at the time of reporting.
Rohingya Khobor is withholding the names of the accused individuals pending further verification.
