A 37-year-old Rohingya man was reportedly abducted and assaulted on Sunday evening, October 11, after leaving his home in Camp 18 to visit his brother in a neighbouring refugee camp.
The man, identified as Mohammed Rashid, reportedly left home at around 6 pm to collect money from his brother in Camp 17, according to information provided to Rohingya Khobor by a community representative.
When Rashid failed to return, his family began looking for him. His wife reportedly received a phone call demanding Tk 200,000 for his release.
Community sources said Rashid was later found in Camp 20 shortly after midnight, before any ransom was paid.
A separate account of the incident alleged that he had been severely beaten and wounded with a sharp weapon, including injuries to his back.
He was reportedly taken to an MSF hospital in Camp 8W for treatment. His current condition and the severity of his injuries have not been independently confirmed.
Community members have raised allegations about the possible involvement of individuals linked to armed groups, but Rohingya Khobor could not verify those claims or identify the alleged attackers.
The circumstances of Rashid’s reported abduction, assault and release remain unclear. It is also not known whether police have opened an investigation.
