Arakan State, 4 September 2026: A 54-year-old Rohingya man was reportedly killed in Young Chaung village on 3 September following a dispute over repayment of a loan, according to local sources.
The deceased was identified as Ali Akbor, 54.
Local sources told Rohingya Khobor that Ali Akbor had lent 200,000 Myanmar kyats to a Rakhine man for one month.
According to their account, Ali Akbor later asked for the money to be repaid after the agreed period ended. During a subsequent dispute, the borrower allegedly struck him with a stick, causing injuries that resulted in his death.
Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the circumstances of the killing or obtain a response from the alleged attacker.
Local sources also said the alleged attacker was later taken into custody by the Arakan Army (AA), but Rohingya Khobor could not independently confirm the arrest or his current status.
Further details about any investigation or action taken in connection with Ali Akbor’s death were not immediately available.
