Buthidaung, Arakan State — October 16, 2026
A 47-year-old Rohingya woman was reportedly taken from her home by members of the Arakan Army (AA) in Buthidaung Township following a dispute involving her son and a cow.
According to information received by Rohingya Khobor from local sources, the incident took place in Sein Din Pyin village.
Residents alleged that the dispute began after the woman’s son went to a nearby Rakhine village to retrieve a cow. Another person reportedly complained to AA members, claiming that the cow had been taken from a Rakhine boy.
When AA members arrived at the woman’s home, her son was reportedly absent. The members allegedly took his mother instead.
Local sources said that on October 14, the AA told the family that the woman would remain in detention unless her son presented himself at an AA camp.
The exact date on which the woman was taken remains unclear because the initial accounts contain conflicting dates.
Her current whereabouts and condition were not known at the time of reporting. It was also unclear whether her family had been allowed to contact her.
Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the circumstances of her reported detention, the allegation concerning the cow or the reported demand made to her family.
No response from the AA was available at the time of publication.
