Camp-1W, Cox’s Bazar, 23 November 2024 – This morning, Rohingya students organized a peaceful protest under the banner of “Youths Movement for Arakan” at Kutupalong camp, calling for an end to ongoing violence against Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State (Rakhine State, Myanmar). Hundreds of students gathered to express their solidarity and demand justice for their community.
The protest coincided with an event at the football field in Camp-1W, where over 400 Rohingya youths and students participated in a program aimed at inspiring education and advocating for rights. Teachers, community leaders, and Islamic scholars joined both gatherings, delivering speeches that emphasized the importance of maintaining peace within the refugee camps and uniting for a dignified return to Arakan.
At the protest, speakers highlighted the urgent need to address the violence and persecution faced by Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. They also underscored education as a critical tool for empowering the youth to lead their community toward a brighter future.
The event at Camp-1W further included discussions with headmasters and educators about expanding educational opportunities for Rohingya students. These initiatives aim to help young learners pursue higher education despite the challenges of life in a refugee camp.
The banner “Youths Movement for Arakan” symbolized the unified aspirations of the Rohingya youth for justice, freedom, and dignity. Together, the protest and educational event showcased the determination of the Rohingya community to rise above adversity, advocate for their rights, and prepare for a future where they can return to their homeland in peace and security.
