At least six displaced civilians were reportedly killed and 10 others injured in airstrikes on a displacement camp in Ponnagyun Township on Sunday evening, according to local residents.
Local sources told Rohingya Khobor that two fighter jets carried out strikes on the Yoe Ngu–Byala displacement camp shortly after 5 pm.
The strikes reportedly hit an area where displaced families were living, damaging at least four houses and several shops. Residents said some buildings caught fire after the explosions.
A displaced person who spoke to Rohingya Khobor described panic inside the camp as the attack began.
“We heard the sound of the fighter jets and then the bombs exploded. People started running in every direction, and we did not know where it was safe to go,” the person said.
Another resident said families living at the site had already been displaced by fighting elsewhere.
“These people had already fled their homes because of the fighting. They were staying here for safety, but now even this place has been attacked,” the resident said.
A third local resident said people searched for relatives and tried to help the injured immediately after the strikes.
“There were houses and shops here, and ordinary families were staying in them. After the bombing, people were searching for their relatives and trying to help the injured,” the resident said.
Local sources reported that at least six people were killed and 10 others injured. The identities and ages of those reported killed were not immediately available.
Residents were continuing to gather information on casualties and damage, and the figures could change as more information becomes available.
Rohingya Khobor could not independently verify the casualty figures or the full extent of the damage.
Myanmar junta authorities had not publicly commented on the reported strikes at the time of publication.
